You can claim Lump-sum Withdrawal Payments with keeping your PR visa

Non-Japanese people can claim Japanese pension’s Lump-sum Withdrawal Payments (pension refund). Even PR holders (Eijusha, 永住者 in Japanese) can do.

But PR holders have an additional condition to claim Lump-sum Withdrawal Payments, that is shown on the table below.
The aim of this condition is that it helps PR holders acquire a qualification of Old Age Pension easily. But instead of that it makes them more difficult to claim Lump-sum Withdrawal Payments.
In anyway PR holders can claim Lump-sum Withdrawal Payments if they fill this condition, and they can do it with keeping their PR visa. So keeping PR visa and claiming Lump-sum Withdrawal Payments are not a trade-off. Moreover, this condition is applied to ex-PR holders too.

PR holder has a special condition to receive old age pensions and Lump-sum Withdrawal Payments

There is a special condition for PR holders to receive old age pensions and Lump-sum Withdrawal Payments, that is not applied to holders of other kinds of visas:

If [Contribution Months(*)] + [Months and dates for that PR holder was out of Japan (but only between age 20 and the acquirement date of PR)] is less than 10 years,

PR holder can claim Lump-sum Withdrawal Payments.

If [Contribution Months(*)] + [Months and dates for that PR holder was out of Japan (but only between age 20 and the acquirement date of PR)] is 10 years or more,

PR holder cannot claim Lump-sum Withdrawal Payments but have a qualification to claim Old Age Pension after age 65.

(*) For students, dependents, or low-income earners who apply smaller contributions or the full exemption of pensions, their exempted months are also counted as Contribution Months.
