You can use My Number for applications of Japanese pensions, basically

Japanese government issues My Number as the ID to all the residents who have an address in Japan. It is linked to personal information of each resident.
It is also allocated to non-Japanese citizens who have an address in Japan.

Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare (厚生労働省) announces how you can use your My number for proceeding claims of Japanese pensions:

From March 2018 (平成30年3月), you can submit applications of Japanese pensions using My Number basically.
(From Ministry of HLW’s website)https://www.mhlw.go.jp/stf/seisakunitsuite/bunya/0000193798.html

Now you can submit applications of old age pensions or employees’ pension insurance using My Number.

But you need Basic Pension Number to claim Lump-sum Pension Refund (as of Oct 2024)

However, you need to submit lump-sum pension refund (Lump-sum Withdrawal Payments) using Basic Pension Number (基礎年金番号) as of October 2024.
If you claim it without reporting your Basic Pension Number, then it is possible that its payment is delayed or Japan Pension Service even sends the claim back. So please be sure to confirm your Basic Pension Number to the employer when you leave Japan.
